Portugal National Football Team History

The Portugal national football team has competed since 1921. Portugal's first game was against Spain in Madrid on the 18th December 1921 - Portugal lost 3-1.

The Portugal national team's biggest wins were 8-0 against Liechenstein on both the 18th November 1994 and the 9th June 1999; and 8-0 against Kuwait on the 19th November 2003.

Portugal's heaviest defeat was on the 25th May 1947, 10-0 versus England.

Portugal's Best Results in Major International Tournaments

Portugal reached the Semi-Final of the World Cup in both 1966 and 2006.

Portugal reached the Semi-Finals of the European Cup in 1984, 2000, and 2012. In 2004 Portugal reached the Final of the European Cup, and in 2016 Portugal won the European Cup. Portugal also won the inaugaral European Nations League, in 2019.
